Why I Created a Networking Event That’s About More Than Just Talking Business

One of my favourite things about networking events has nothing to do with business cards or pitches. It’s the food.
Seriously. Whether it’s a beautiful charcuterie board, a fresh brunch spread, or even just coffee and muffins, food has a way of sparking conversations that feel easy and natural. You start with, “Wow, have you tried this?” and before you know it, you’re swapping stories, sharing laughs, and actually connecting.
But for me, it’s not just about the food—it’s the space too. I’ve been to events where the music was so loud I could barely hear what the person across from me was saying. And as someone who really values meaningful conversations, I don’t want to spend half the night asking people to repeat themselves. The space matters. There needs to be room to breathe, bathrooms that are easy to find, and a water station that doesn’t require a scavenger hunt. That’s why I love co-working spaces. They’re set up for real connection without all the extra noise.
And here’s where the idea for Collaborate & Capture came in. I noticed two common things popping up in conversations with other business owners lately. First, so many of us want updated headshots that show who we really are right now—not the version of us from years ago. Second, there’s the need for B-roll content for marketing. Because let’s be real, the “arm’s length selfie” can only get you so far. And if you’re anything like me, you probably don’t love constantly being in front of the camera.
So, I thought, why not combine the two?
On October 4, I’m hosting the Collaborate & Capture Networking Brunch at FlexSpace in Richmond Hill. It’s one of my favorite venues because it’s designed for connection—quiet enough to actually hear each other, comfortable enough to relax, and with everything we need for a great morning together.
Here’s what I knew I wanted for this brunch.
Food had to be part of it, because it’s one of my favorite parts of any networking event. A beautiful spread creates an easy way to start conversations, and Grazing Bliss is putting together something that’s as delicious as it is inviting.
I also kept hearing from other business owners that they wanted updated headshots. Not the stiff, overly professional kind, but photos that really reflect who they are now. That’s why I invited Henji from iOptix Studios to join us. He has such a talent for capturing people as they are, and I wanted to give attendees the option to walk away with images they feel proud to use.
And then there’s the B-roll content. My assistant has been reminding me (constantly) that I need more of it, but I know firsthand how awkward it feels to film yourself. So I thought—why not pair people up? Before the event, attendees will get prompts and ideas, plus a list of great spots in Richmond Hill to shoot. That way, we can help each other capture authentic moments without all the pressure of doing it alone.
Most of all, I wanted a space that felt comfortable and welcoming. No loud music you have to shout over, no rushing to find a glass of water, no stiff introductions. Just a room full of women ready to connect, support each other, and maybe even leave with a new business bestie.

This is what Collaborate & Capture is all about: good food, genuine conversation, and capturing the kind of content that helps you show up in your business with confidence.
So if you’ve been craving a networking event that feels more like a morning with friends than a room full of awkward introductions, this is it. Collaborate & Capture is about making real connections, enjoying good food, and walking away with both new relationships and content you’ll actually want to use.
I’d love for you to join us on October 4 at FlexSpace in Richmond Hill. It’s going to be a morning of collaboration, laughter, and maybe even a few new business besties.
